The Dean of the Faculty of Built Environment at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi (KNUST), Professor Emmanuel Adinyira, has called on postgraduate research supervisors at Sunyani Technical University (STU) to strengthen their supervisory capacity to improve the quality and timeliness of postgraduate research.
Professor Adinyira said effective supervision is anchored on clarity of communication, mutual respect, structured engagement and strong institutional support, stressing that the quality of supervision significantly shapes research outcomes, student experience and institutional reputation.
He made the remarks while serving as Resource Person at a seminar organised by STU’s School of Graduate Studies under the theme, “Enhancing Quality and Timely Completion of Postgraduate Research through Effective Supervision.”

Addressing participants, he said that when supervisory challenges are addressed proactively and systematically, research quality improves, student satisfaction rises and completion rates increase, ultimately strengthening a university’s image and standing.
The seminar provided a platform for sharing best practices, practical supervisory strategies, ethical considerations and contemporary approaches to postgraduate supervision.

Professor Adinyira delivered four interactive sessions covering the roles and responsibilities of supervisors, research design and methodology expectations, managing supervision challenges and student–supervisor relationships, as well as ethics, plagiarism detection tools such as Turnitin and quality assurance mechanisms.
